Economic Vibe

It’s an interesting question I have been asking myself in recent time, are we in the throw’s of another recession or are people just suffering from what’s been a very cold and wet winter in NZ.

While dairy prices are down and the NZ dollar has fallen to the low 60’s against the green back, I believe that us Kiwi’s are just caught up in the winter blues and the anxiety surrounding another rugby world cup on the horizon.

Let’s look at the positives:

-      Interest rates are at record lows;

-      Unemployment is still remarkably low when compared to other OECD countries;

-      Immigration is still high, meaning demand for local product and services increases;

-      Most Kiwi’s still have money in their pocket; and

-      Daylight savings is only a few weeks away.

As a client said to be during the week when discussing this very subject, are you still earning, are you expenses the same as they were a year ago, are you still going on holiday, while then what recession?

While there are undoubted headwinds ahead with China’s economy slowing down, while we continue to have a high demand for product and services here, then we will survive.  I believe a positive approach to your business is key.  Even in the toughest market there are opportunities and you usually don’t have to look that hard.

Chin up, stay positive and look for those opportunities.
